Bẫy cần gỡ
Chọn a/an theo âm, không theo chữ: a useful map /juː…/, an honest answer /ɒ…/. Không dùng the trước Vietnam hoặc English trong các ví dụ chung. Không biến một câu chuyện cá nhân thành ‘all Vietnamese people’.
- a useful map /ə ˈjuːsfəl mæp/
- an honest answer /ən ˈɒnɪst ˈɑːnsə/
- an exhibition /ən ˌeksɪˈbɪʃn/
A useful map and an honest explanation make the exhibition easier to understand.1. Nghe không nói. 2. Nói đè theo cụm. 3. Tự ghi âm và so độ rõ.

For a fictional school exchange, Mai is preparing a small display about Vietnam. She begins with a paper lotus that her class made from reused paper. After introducing it, she calls it the lotus because every listener now knows which object she means. Mai explains that it is a classroom artwork, not proof that one object represents every Vietnamese person or region. Beside it, she places an exhibition card and a useful map. The card gives a plain-language explanation of the student project. The map shows only the places mentioned in three student stories; it is not a complete cultural map of Vietnam. Mai uses English to explain why her own group chose the lotus shape, then invites visitors to ask what remains unclear. One visitor asks whether the artwork is old. Mai gives an honest answer: the object is new, although the students discussed familiar images before creating it. She does not invent an ancient history. At the end, the visitor can identify the object, the personal story and the limit. Articles have helped the talk move from a new item to a shared reference without pretending that everyone already knew it.
- 1Why does Mai later say the lotus?
- 2What honest limit does Mai state?
Hội thoại có mục đích
Mục tiêu: Giới thiệu vật và mời người nghe làm rõ mà không khái quát quá mức.
Vai: A: người giới thiệu • B: khách trao đổi
AI would like to show you a paper lotus from our class display.
BWhat does the lotus mean in this project?
AIt connects to a story that our student group chose to tell.
BDoes it represent everyone in Vietnam?
ANo. It represents this classroom story only.
BThanks. That limit makes the explanation clear.
Cultural explanation starts with what this listener knows
Đánh dấu NEW → SHARED → GENERAL. Tìm câu chuyện cá nhân và ranh giới ngăn ‘one example’ thành ‘everyone’.
A cultural introduction succeeds when a listener can follow the language and limits of the example. The speaker should not begin by assuming that a Vietnamese word, object or custom is familiar to everyone. First, introduce the item with a plain description. ‘This is a paper lotus from our classroom display’ gives the listener an object and a source. After that first mention, ‘the lotus’ becomes a shared reference. Articles quietly track this change. A/an can introduce one unspecified countable item; the can point to the item that both people can now identify. Zero article appears in expressions such as ‘Vietnam’, ‘English’ and ‘culture’ when culture is discussed in general. Article choice is only one part of responsible explanation. One object cannot represent every family, region or person. A student may connect it to a personal or classroom story and say exactly whose story it is. If the origin or age of an object is unknown, the speaker should say so instead of filling the gap with an attractive legend. Questions are useful evidence of listener understanding. ‘What does this item mean in your project?’ invites a bounded answer, while ‘Does everyone in Vietnam do this?’ gives the speaker a chance to reject an overgeneralisation. A clear ending may compare what the visitor first thought with what the speaker actually meant. The goal is not to compress a diverse country into one symbol. It is to make one framed example understandable and open the door to further, respectful questions.
1What do articles help a speaker track?
2Why should a speaker name whose story an object represents?

I would like to introduce a paper lotus from our fictional school display about Vietnam. The lotus was made by our class from reused paper for this exchange. An exhibition card beside it explains the student project in plain English, and a useful map shows the three places mentioned in our stories. The artwork is new; we do not claim that it is an ancient object or that one lotus represents every Vietnamese person, family or region. Our group chose the shape because it connects the three personal stories that we prepared. Visitors may ask what the object means in this project, who made it and which information remains uncertain. If a question needs knowledge that we have not checked, we will say so and look for a reliable source later. One careful example can begin a conversation without pretending to explain all of Vietnam.
