ƯỚC MƠ LỚNENGLISH EVERY DAY
Trang chủReport the dream, not the pressure
Tường thuật ước mơ, đừng tường thuật áp lực
Cô nói ‘Hãy thử câu lạc bộ’. Bản nháp biến thành ‘Cô ra lệnh tôi phải sống ở câu lạc bộ’. Một động từ reporting verb vừa gửi đơn xin minh oan.
“She invited me to join the club; my draft reported that I had been sentenced to live there.”Cô mời tớ tham gia câu lạc bộ; bản nháp lại tường thuật như tớ bị kết án phải sống luôn ở đó.
Ask/invite/order + object + to-infinitive mang lực khác nhau. Chọn reporting verb sai là đổi hành động giao tiếp.Học sáu cụm để dùng ngay

Khung câu
- ask/tell/order/invite + object + to + verb
- ask/tell/order + object + not to + verb
- adjust pronouns and time/place reference when viewpoint changes
- do not backshift mechanically when meaning/time remains current

‘Please send the draft,’ she said. → She asked me to send the draft.
‘Join our observation day,’ he said. → He invited Lan to join their observation day.
‘Do not share the file,’ the editor said. → The editor told us not to share the file.

Bẫy cần gỡ
Không viết asked me that send. Không dùng invited me that. Không biến please thành order nếu ngữ cảnh là request. Đổi đại từ theo người kể, không theo công thức mù.
Đồng hoá trong did you, would you và could you
Ưu tiên người nghe hiểu rõ. Có hai mẫu Anh–Mỹ/Anh–Anh; giọng cụ thể phụ thuộc thiết bị, còn IPA và hướng dẫn khẩu hình là chuẩn đối chiếu.
Trong lời nói tự nhiên, /d/ + /j/ có thể chuyển gần /dʒ/: did you /ˈdɪdʒuː/, would you /ˈwʊdʒuː/. /t/ + /j/ có thể gần /tʃ/: can't you. Đây là biến đổi âm ở ranh giới từ, không đổi ngữ pháp hay chính tả.
- did you /ˈdɪdʒuː/
- would you /ˈwʊdʒuː/
- can't you /ˈkɑːntʃuː/
Would you send the draft, and could you keep the speaker's intent clear?1. Nghe không nói. 2. Nói đè theo cụm. 3. Tự ghi âm và so độ rõ.

In a fictional mentoring session, Phuong says that she has become interested in community audio stories. She is curious, but she does not know whether the interest should become a study pathway. Three role cards respond differently. The club leader says, ‘Join our Saturday observation session if you would like to see the process.’ Phuong later reports that the leader invited her to join their Saturday observation session. A classmate says, ‘Could you send me your sample outline before Friday, please?’ Phuong reports that the classmate asked her to send the outline before Friday. Finally, the teacher notices a privacy label missing from the fictional file. She says, ‘Do not upload this draft until the source and consent labels are complete.’ Phuong reports that the teacher told the group not to upload the draft until the labels were complete. The mentor asks Phuong to compare the force of the three messages. The first is an invitation, not a command. The second is a polite request, not an order. The third is a clear instruction protecting the task boundary. Phuong also checks reference words. Our becomes their when she reports the club leader’s words from a different viewpoint; me becomes the classmate or him, depending on the chosen report. The session does not decide Phuong’s future. It gives her a safe observation, one feedback request and one publishing boundary. Her dream remains a direction to explore rather than a promise she must defend.
- 1How does Phuong report the club leader's words?
- 2Why does the teacher tell the group not to upload the draft?

A reporting verb carries social meaning
Tìm ORIGINAL WORDS–FORCE–REPORTING VERB–OBJECT–REFERENCE SHIFT–BOUNDARY.
Reported speech is not only a grammar transformation. When a writer chooses asked, told, ordered or invited, the writer interprets a social action. That choice can preserve the original intent or distort it. A polite request should not become an order simply because the reporter wants a dramatic story. An invitation allows a choice; a command does not. The structure often uses a reporting verb, an object and a to-infinitive. ‘Please send the outline,’ said to one learner, can become ‘She asked the learner to send the outline.’ A negative instruction can use not to: ‘The editor told the group not to publish the file.’ Pronouns and reference words may change because the viewpoint changes. Our may become their, here may become there, and tomorrow may need a date or the following day. These shifts are not automatic decorations. The reporter asks who is speaking now, who heard the original message and whether the original time or place is still the same. Tense backshift also depends on meaning and reporting context; learners should not change every verb mechanically when a fact remains current. Reporting someone’s dream requires another boundary. A learner may say, ‘I want to explore audio stories.’ A reporter should not rewrite that interest as a permanent promise or a decision demanded by adults. The report can include invitations to observe, requests for a sample and instructions protecting consent. It should keep the learner’s uncertainty visible. In classroom tasks, every dialogue should be fictional and should avoid real admissions promises or private conversations. Choice remains central. Accurate reporting gives readers access to what was communicated, who was expected to act and how much choice the original words allowed.
1Why is choosing a reporting verb an act of interpretation?
2What should remain visible when reporting a learner's dream?
Viết fictional dream-dialogue report 180–200 từ.
Viết cho người đọc thật: dựng ý, viết nháp, kiểm nghĩa rồi mới sửa hình thức.

Phuong has become interested in creating community audio stories, but she has not chosen a permanent pathway. During a fictional mentoring session, a club leader said, ‘Join our Saturday observation session if you would like to see the process.’ In Phuong's later report, the leader invited her to join their observation session. A classmate then said, ‘Could you send me your sample outline before Friday, please?’ In the same report, the classmate asked her to send the outline before Friday. The teacher noticed that the source and consent labels were incomplete. She said, ‘Do not upload this draft until the labels are complete.’ Phuong wrote that the teacher told the group not to upload it before completing those labels. The three messages had different force. The first offered a choice, the second made a polite request, and the third set a clear publishing boundary. Their and her changed because the reporting viewpoint changed. None of the messages required Phuong to turn an early interest into a lifelong promise. Her next step is simply to observe the fictional process, request feedback and check whether the work, workload and ethical responsibilities fit her current goal.
